Dragon Energy congratulates team riders Trey Wood for taking first place in the Converse Concrete Jam bowl competition during the 24th Tampa Pro skateboard contest this Saturday. In a heated night semester on the concrete park outside Skate Park of Tampa (SPoT), the 17-year-old from Arizona, stoked the crowd using a run featuring never-seen-before moves that instantly moved viral to social media.
Since its beginnings in 1995, Tampa Guru has emerged as the most respected grassroots contest in skateboarding due to its trademark blend of skateboarding, live audio, and unwanted events. These components kicked into overdrive during Saturday’s concrete jam, as some of the world’s gifted park riders assaulted the bowl course at a no-holds-barred jam session fueled by punk rock along with the yearly SPoT Party.
When all was done and said, Dragon Energy’s Wood claimed the top spot after covering all angles of the rugged concrete bowl landscape using high-flying airs and technical eyebrow tips. Wood’therefore highlights contained over head-high backside crossbone airs, human anatomy pigments, and backside 540s in the vertical section, as well as a barrage of hard moves over the bowl’s mythical Door Gap including backside tailslide, frontside bluntslide, and frontside nosebluntslide — all served as speed and precision.
Taking things to another degree, Wood literally moved over the surface by yanking never-seen-before backside boneless foot plant onto the skatepark roof seven feet over the edge of the bowl — and bringing it back in the bowl in front of the roaring crowd. Wood was applauded master of ceremonies Jake Phelps of Thrasher magazine fame and also by his peers, as footage of the stunt spread across media.
This weekend’s win begins Wood’so season on a high note. The rookie expert, famous for his appearances in Big Air events in the X Games from a young age, is back into full form after fighting a enormous growth spurt over the last calendar year.
Back in Sunday’s road closing in Tampa Pro presented by Monster Energy, rookie specialist Jagger Eaton in Mesa, Arizona, led to an upset by winning first place at a stacked area of high experts. Jagger also qualified directly as the top placing non-SLS Pro into the 2018 Street League Skateboarding Nike SB World Tour.
Stay tuned for the show of 2018 Street League Skateboarding Nike SB World Tour stops arriving. Also look forward to Wood, Tom Schaar, and the remainder of Monster Energy team this year in the world Vans Skatepark Series, as well as the X Games and other park riding events.
