Los Blancos are among the candidates for the Finest Team of the Year along with NBA winners Golden State Warriors; the New England Patriots who won the NFL; Formula One group, Mercedes-AMG Petronas; the French group which won the Davis Cup and New Zealand team who won the America’s Cup.
In the category of Best Sportsman, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rafa Nadal are in the working, as is Roger Federer, along with three Britons: Lewis Hamilton, Chris Froome and Mo Farah.
For the Best Sportswoman division are Garbine Muguruza, Serena Williams, Caster Semenya, Allyson Felix, Katie Ledecky and Mikqela Shiffrin.
Barcelona have been nominated for the Best Comeback of the Year Award for the way they beat Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg after their 4-0 first-leg defeat in the Champions League.
Also in this category are Chapecoense, Roger Federer, athletes Justin Gatlin and Sally Pearson, and MotoGP motorist Valentino Rossi.
Sergio Garcia is in the Breakthrough category along with Kylian Mbappe, Anthony Joshua, Jelena Ostapenko, Caeleb Dressel and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
One of those nominated for its Disability award are Marcel Hug, Yui Kamiji, Oksana Experts, Bibian Mentel-Spee, Jetze Plat and Markus Rehm.
In the Action section are John John Florence, Tyler Wright, Anna Gasser, Mark McMorris, Nyjah Huston, Armel Le Cleac’h.
